Term that came into SEO from marketing. In marketing, cannibalization refers to the phenomenon when, within a company, the entry into the market of one product or service negatively affects the sales of another.
In SEO, cannibalization refers to the same effect, but here the site acts as a company, and the site pages as a product or service. Unlike marketing in SEO, cannibalization of website pages can occur when the same information is presented on several pages at once. It can be intentional or not intentional duplication of pages, duplicates in the meta title, meta-description, H1 headings. But the cannibalization of the pages of the site can be not only for duplication of directly textual factors, but also semantic ones.
